Pipes. It is used as a medium to carry liquids from one end to another, safely and securely. We sometimes see maintenance going on at the side of the road when workers are fixing a leaking pipe, and oftentimes we deal with broken or leaking pipes at home too! Therefore, let’s take a look at the type of pipes available, like steel conduit pipes, pu pre-insulated pipe Malaysia, stainless steel pipes and many more!
Importance Of Pipes
It may look like a simple thing, in fact, it IS a simple thing – however, such simplicity is often needed to be used as a medium for transporting liquid or substance from one end to another. Imagine living in an environment without proper piping, where liquids and substances flow freely. Definitely nothing but living in chaos, that’s what I imagined it to be.
The existence of various types of pipes, made from different materials, and ranging in different sizes and uses, create an organised and strategic flow of liquids and substances to their designated destination.
Types of Pipes Available
Pipes differ from each other due to the material that it was made from, and it also differs in their uses. When choosing a pipe, one must be able to differentiate between pipes used for residential purposes or industrial purposes. Choosing the wrong pipes will result in heavy leakage, or worst, broken pipes. To avoid this, let’s take a look at the type of pipes that are used in our daily lives.
PVC Pipes
The most common, everyday pipe can be found in the kitchen and in the bathroom. PVC, also known as polyvinyl chloride pipes, are most commonly used as part of the sink, toilet or shower drain line. It is said that the plastic tubing of the PVC is suitable to be used in both the kitchen and bathroom because it protects the water from rust. At the same time, it is also durable in terms of dealing with high water pressure, making it the ideal pipe to be used in one’s home’s main water supply line. However, the cons of the PVC pipes are that PVC pipes are unable to withstand hot water, as it may introduce polyvinyl chloride chemicals into drinking water.
ABS Pipes
This pipe is similar to PVC pipes in terms of its nature, and the ability to withstand high water pressure and all that, but ABS pipes are easier to recognise due to their colour (mainly black and blue). Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) is usually used in vents or drain lines, and it is also known for its ability to withstand cold temperatures. Despite the easy installation, it can warp when exposed directly to sunlight, and it is also noisier than other types of plumbing.
Pre-Insulated Pipes
This pipe is different from the other pipes, in the way that it is insulated and it is used for district heating and hot water supply. The pre-insulated pipes normally consist of a steel pipe, an insulating layer and an outer casing. The design of the insulated pipes is such as it is made to maintain the temperature of the fluid in the pipes (in this case, pre-insulated pipes are made to maintain the temperature of hot water).
